Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how BegemothSoft, the developer of Pocket Sync (referred to here as we, us, or the Service Provider), handles information in connection with the Pocket Sync application (referred to here as the Application).

Local-First Design

Pocket Sync is built to work on your device. All the financial data you enter — accounts, transactions, budgets, goals — is stored only in a local database on your device. We do not operate a server for this data, and the Application does not transmit your financial information to us or to any third party. (See Analytics and Crash Reporting and Exchange Rates below for the separate, limited technical data described there.)

Information We Do Not Collect

The Application does not collect your name, precise location, or the content of your accounts, transactions, budgets, or goals — that financial data stays on your device. The Application has no accounts or sign-in, so we never ask for or store your name, email address, or password.

Analytics and Crash Reporting

Pocket Sync uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, provided by Google, to help us understand how the Application is used and to diagnose technical problems. These tools automatically collect limited technical and usage information: which screen you view; that an action occurred, for example that a transaction was saved or deleted, that a suggested category was changed, that a savings goal was added, or that you used another feature such as setting a budget limit, managing a category, exporting or importing data, adding a debt, or backing up or restoring your data; your device model and operating system version; the app version; and, if the Application encounters an unexpected error, diagnostic error details such as the error type and a technical stack trace.

Firebase also briefly processes your IP address to derive an approximate, coarse location (such as country or region) and assigns your device a random analytics identifier. Neither is linked to your name, since the Application has no accounts or sign-in. We do not send your transaction amounts, account balances, account names, transaction or goal descriptions, or category names to Firebase. This information is processed by Google as our service provider, under Google's own privacy policy. The Application does not currently provide an in-app control to disable this collection.

Exchange Rates

When you create a transfer or transaction between accounts in different currencies, the Application requests an exchange rate online from the public Frankfurter service (api.frankfurter.dev). The request contains the two currency codes involved and, as with any internet request, your IP address is visible to that service. It does not contain your amounts, balances, or account details.

Website Analytics

This section applies to our websites (pocketsync.web.app and begemothsoft.web.app), not to the Application. With your consent, the websites use Google Analytics 4 to measure visits: pages viewed, clicks on links such as Google Play, approximate location (country or city), device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. Analytics cookies are used only after you choose Accept in the banner; if you choose Decline, analytics storage stays disabled. IP addresses are not logged or stored in Google Analytics, and advertising features are turned off. You can change your choice by clearing this site's data in your browser. The sites are hosted on Firebase Hosting (Google), which processes standard server logs.

Permissions

On Android, the Application requests the Notifications permission to alert you if your chosen backup folder becomes inaccessible, for the daily expense-tracking reminder you can configure from the side drawer, and for the automatic report ready/failed notification if you enable scheduled PDF reports. It also requests the Schedule Exact Alarms permission, used by the daily reminder and automatic reports to fire at the time you configure. The Application uses the Internet permission for the analytics and exchange-rate requests described above. It does not request location, camera, or contacts access.

Backup and Restore

Pocket Sync stores backups only in destinations you choose through the Android system file interface and never sends them to BegemothSoft. Local database encryption is optional and off by default. When enabled, new backups are portable password-protected encrypted files. When disabled, a readable plaintext backup is created only after a clear warning and your explicit confirmation. Pocket Sync never receives or stores your recovery password and cannot retrieve or reset it.

Your Data, Your Control

Because your financial data stays on your device — and, if you use backup, in a folder you choose — BegemothSoft has no ability to access, retrieve, modify, or delete it on your behalf. To remove your data, delete individual entries within the Application, or uninstall the Application and delete your backup files.

Children

The Application is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Application. The Application has no accounts or sign-in, and does not knowingly collect your financial data or personal identity through Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics from anyone, including children.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA) and Other Regional Rights

The Application's financial-data features do not collect, sell, or share your accounts, transactions, budgets, or goals — that data stays on your device. The Application does use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (see above), which involve limited technical and usage information processed by Google. If you are a California resident (or a resident of another region with similar rights) and have questions about this data or wish to exercise a right available to you under applicable law, contact us below.

Security

Your financial data stays on your device. You can optionally encrypt the local database with device-protected key material and a separate recovery password; this is independent from App Guard and is off by default. Pocket Sync cannot retrieve or reset that recovery password. Keep your device and operating system up to date and secure every destination you use for backups.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new features. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where the change affects how the Application handles data, notify you within the Application before the change takes effect.
